Tusnelda Bloch is one of my favorite fashion designer from Copenhagen. I have at least one piece from every collection, since she started in 2006. They are the first things i pick out of my closet and some of my most commented on items. This spring is no exception, i’m already having my eyes on some future classics…
This is what Tusnelda says about her own collections: “Each collection stands for creativity and quality and brings joy and wellness by using natural fibers like silk, cashmere, wool and cotton. A timeless, sophisticated and feminine silhouette, that adds a unique style to whoever wears it.”
The other day i had the pleasure to spend a little time with one of my dearest friends Tusnelda Bloch. She was in Amsterdam for a fashion show, before she quickly jumped on a plane to Berlin and ‘Premium’.
This is us.. At the airport at 7 in the morning (Thank G** for Starbucks coffee)
'And Beyond' is one of my favorite Dutch brands. They exists in that magical place between fashion and art.
Their artworks are edgy and modern, their shapes are beautifully constructed and their ways of displaying collections are intriguing. Last years Autumn collection was named ‘Smoke’, and was displayed in big glass montres with smoke being blown onto it… It’s fashion, it’s art.. It’s magical.
Posting the trailer for ‘Inland Empire’ made me think of all the amazing films and series he has given us throughout the years. From ‘Eraserhead’ and ‘Elephant Man’, ‘Blue Velvet’ and ‘Wild at Heart’.. to ‘Mulholland Drive’ and ‘Inland Empire’.. The latter being one of the scariest films i’ve ever seen.
I had the pleasure to shake his hand a few years back… A friend of mine produced a documentary about him, and when Mr Lynch came to Copenhagen to promote it, we were briefly introduced. I was so starstruck, that i’m happy he had to move on fast. I don’t think i said one word. I just stared at him with all my love and awe..
We used to be colleagues, now turned friends. I stopped by her work at ‘Rika’ this Sunday.. To say HI and to have a look around at their new concept ‘Maison Rika’. I’ll post more about that another time.. But first things first: Amandla..
The other day i stopped by the shop “Concrete”… They mostly sell sneakers and hip hop-ish casual wear. But a small part of their space is dedicated to having exhibitions. This month they are exhibiting a selection of works from Ilze Buziau.
Her sketches are elegant and delicate. But I love her objects the most. They are so soft, round and dreamlike. She uses pantyhose fabric on metal wires, and hardens it with thin layer of colorless lacquer. Some of them even has little light inside them, that makes them glow like lamps.
Wouter and i have recently bought a new apartment here in Amsterdam… And the amount of time we spend on researching, looking and exploring is incredible. This weekend we finally finished buying all appliances for the kitchen and went hunting for a sofa… First stop: “Loods5”
Wouter… Having seen enough sofas for one lifetime (or so you should think)
Yesterday i spend the whole day clearing out the upstair room of the shop “SPR SPCLS”.
This will be the new home for our brand and -in a way- my new home. We’re making the upstairs of the shop into a design studio, where i can spend my days overlooking the busy Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. Thank heaven for Gerard, the down stairs shop manager, who will be there to keep me company doing coffee breaks.
